Just this past New Year I was in Montreal and came across an awesome installation outside of a museum. Not only do I see video walls in my leisure time, I see the video walls we install for our customers and it really is amazing what they can do. So, who wants a video-wall, and why?

Over the last decade, “streaming” has become a household term. We stream TV and movies from Netflix, all sorts of videos from YouTube, we even stream training at work and lectures at school. For most people all streaming is the same but behind the scenes a different story, starring unicast, multicast and broadcast unfolds. Each “character” in this streaming story provides similar results but the way they achieve those results is different.

The AV industry has changed quite a bit since we were in high school. The days of overhead projectors and combination DVD/VHS TVs on carts are long gone. The same holds true in our corporate spaces, what was once a projector, screen, and wall plate is now a Crestron touch panel and room scheduler, wireless collaboration devices and HD video conferencing.

On December 3rd we hosted an education event at our office named, “The Global Classroom. Just about twenty educators from local schools attended the event to learn about available resources for distance learning initiatives through Polycom. PC-based or “soft” conferencing is any type of conferencing which utilizes an application or program rather than a dedicated hardware unit. There are many well-known soft clients available such as Skype, Facetime, google hangouts, etc. Soft conferencing has a variety of use cases, from companies just starting out with video conferencing to enterprise level deployments of 1000+ users.
